From Israel to Main Street, U.S.A.: Why Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress Feels More Meaningful Than Ever in America’s 250th Year

In 2003, I arrived in the New York from Israel in pursuit of my higher education. Just like many immigrants before me, my only possession were two suitcases, a dream, and a deep curiosity about what makes this country so unique. I went on to earn my bachelor’s and my master’s degree, and over the years, built a career in production, finance and management, launched my own independent company, and eventually found my way to something that felt unexpectedly perfect: helping families plan meaningful, seamless Disney vacations.

Some might see that as a pivot. I see it as a continuation of the same story—because at its core, Disney is about storytelling, innovation, and the belief that tomorrow can always be better than today.

And nowhere is that message more beautifully captured than in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, I find myself reflecting not only on my own journey as an immigrant who proudly calls this country home for the past 26 years, but also on the ideas that define America: progress, optimism, reinvention, possibility and of course, the pursuit of happiness. The Carousel of Progress isn’t just an attraction—it’s a time capsule of those very values.

Originally created by Walt Disney for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, this attraction was his personal love letter to American innovation. Through a rotating theater and an unforgettable soundtrack—“There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow”—guests are taken through decades of technological and cultural change, from the early 1900s to the modern day.

It’s charming. It’s nostalgic. It’s quietly powerful.

And now, it’s about to change again.

On July 6, 2026, the Carousel of Progress will close for a major reimagining, with Disney promising an updated experience that reflects new eras while honoring the original vision. A new Walt Disney animatronic will introduce the show, inspired by his 1964 television presentation. Each scene will be refreshed to represent different decades, while the heart of the attraction—the belief in progress—remains intact.

For many, this is just another refurbishment.

But for me, it feels symbolic.

Because change is the story.

Just like the family in the Carousel of progress, when I arrived to America, I had to quickly adjust; to the way things are said here, to the culture, bureaucracies and demanding education, all while surviving in one of the toughest cities in the world. I had to adapt, grow, and learn. There were many moments of uncertainty, but also incredible opportunities. Over time, I built a life here—where I now raise my family and am part of a community that truly feels like home.

That’s what progress looks like. Not perfect. Not linear. But always moving forward.

Walt Disney understood this deeply. He believed in celebrating where we’ve been, while always looking ahead to what’s possible. His vision wasn’t just about theme parks—it was about people. About imagination. About building a future that feels brighter.

That’s why Disney vacations are so much more than just fun family vacations with a Mickey Ice Cream Bar. Because when I take my kids to see the Carousel of Progress, I take them on an inspiring journey of innovation. When I take them to the Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom, they learn about the formation of the Constitution, the American Revolution and the Civil War. And when I take them to EPCOT’s American Adventure Pavilion they not only learn about American history, they are also exposed to great figures such as Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain.

These experiences are rooted in connection—between generations, between past and future, between who we were and who we’re becoming.

As a Disney travel advisor, I help families creates the moments that will define THEIR personal history and traditions. Whether it’s a child seeing Cinderella’s Castle for the first time, grandparents sharing stories on Main Street, teenagers flying through Guardians of the Galaxy, or parents taking a well-deserved pause in a spinning theater with air conditioning (yes, Carousel of Progress has earned its reputation), these are the memories that stay.

If the Carousel of Progress is on your Disney bucket list, you’ll have to wait for its reimagined return—but this moment is exactly what makes a Disney trip so special. The parks are always evolving, always offering something new alongside the classics you know and love. From iconic attractions to brand-new experiences, there has never been a better time to plan a trip that blends nostalgia with what’s next.

Whether you're dreaming of your first visit or returning to create new memories, I’ll help you design a seamless, meaningful Disney vacation tailored to your family. Because the magic isn’t just in what’s coming—it’s in being there to experience it, and the feeling that lasts long after. So, let’s start planning your next Disney adventure!

As America celebrates 250 years, and as Disney continues to evolve, I feel incredibly grateful to be part of both stories. A proud American, an immigrant, a mother, and someone who gets to help others experience the magic of this country through one of its most iconic destinations.

There really is a great BIG, beautiful tomorrow.
